NO MEU SORRISO A MINHA ENTREGA. UM BUSTO DE AMÁLIA POR JOAQUIM VALENTE

Over more than half a century, Amália Rodrigues sang Lisbon, embodying and projecting the city inside and outside the country. The figure of the fadista, fed by the media industry, contributed to a renewal of the fado singer and city imagery. In 1945, the sculptor Joaquim Valente was responsible for one of the most iconic plastic representations of Amália. With her head bowed, her eyes closed, her face serene, Valente’s bust portrays Amália in communion with her emotions and fado. This work would become emblematic by appearing on the cover of the album, recorded in 1962, in which Amália brings to her singing, for the first time, the voices of erudite poets and which marks the beginning of the artist’s artistic partnership with Alain Oulman. Untitled, seminal and revolutionary, the album would be known forever as Busto. Associated with the centenary celebrations of the birth of the fado singer and revisiting the collections of the Lisbon Museum, this exhibition tells the story of this bust.

PUBLIC ART

Programmes to be established across the country to celebrate Amália in public spaces based on a number of different artistic projects, focusing on the national, collective appropriation of her legacy.

WHY THE SKY IS ALWAYS TOO LITTLE

Public art project organised in four belvederes – Jardim 9 de Abril, Santa Luzia, Senhora do Monte and São Pedro de Alcântara – based on the invitation to our Portuguese artists who have produced creations in this area of sound, within the universe of visual arts. The suggestion led to the hypothesis of working in a universe as vast as the sound of Amália, with multiple possibilities, in the themes performed, in the words spoken, in laughter and in the murmuring of her audiences.
