MUSIC

 

Part of the programme devoted to the celebration of Amália Rodrigues with regard to her poetic and musical legacy by national and international artists of different styles and from different generations. This part of the programme consists of concerts to be held in national concert halls but also in public areas, namely the great celebrations promoted by the Lisbon City Council to be held in July and September.

 

GUITARS FOR AMÁLIA

At the opening of the celebrations for the Centenary of Amália Rodrigues’ birth, the Lisbon City Council presents Guitars for Amália Rodrigues.

A tribute of 100 musicians, from different generations, to the universal legacy of Amália Rodrigues.

Recorded in Lisbon’s City Hall, the concert will be broadcast online from the social networks of the Lisbon City Council, EGEAC and the Fado Museum on July 1, 2020.

JOEL PINA 100 YEARS

On 19 February 2020 Joel Pina commemorates his 100th birthday. Pivotal figure in the History of Fado, Joel Pina was the musician who accompanied Amália Rodrigues for the longest period of time (three decades). This double centenary is a cause for celebration in a concert promoted by the Fado Museum in the São Luiz Municipal Theatre.

100 AMÁLIA

How do the younger generations who were born in the 21st century experience and feel the legacy of Amália?

A musical with orchestra. Staging, theatrical representation and musical accompaniment by students from the Nuno Gonçalves Cluster of Schools between the ages of 9 and 18.

FESTIVAL SANTA CASA ALFAMA

In the centenary year of the birth of Amália Rodrigues, the Santa Casa Alfama Festival is back in Lisbon with a special edition in honor of the Queen of Fado and Voice of Portugal.
On October 2 and 3, 2020, Fado will be heard on four different stages. The concert “Celebrate Amália 100 Years Later” stands out, which will bring together, on the 3rd, under the musical direction of Jorge Fernando, the artists Rui Veloso, Kátia Guerreiro, Diogo Piçarra, Marco Rodrigues, Sara Correia and André Amaro, at Santa Casa Stage located in the Lisbon Cruise Terminal.
The poster also includes the itinerant exhibition “Bem-Vinda Sejas Amália” that will be on display during the two days of the Festival, from 10 am to 10 pm, at the Lisbon Cruise Terminal, where a video mapping show about the life and work of Amália, made in partnership with the Amália Rodrigues Foundation.

AMÁLIA, A VOZ MAIOR QUE O FADO

On the anniversary of the establishment of Fado as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO) the Belém Cultural Centre will hold a special concert to pay tribute to Amália Rodrigues and her legacy, with Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Luz Casal, Camané, Ricardo Ribeiro, among others.

AMÁLIA, WHO GAVE YOU THE FATE THAT WAS ALREADY YOURS…

“Amália, who gave you the fate that was already yours… Amália’s fate is to be our eternal inspiration. In this concert there is a part that is especially dear to me: the 6 songs and poems that were made to offer Amália after she left us. “Xaile de Silêncio”, for example, was created by Mário Cláudio on the same day of her death. I think these offerings are a poetic idea and more interesting than repeating ad eternum the Amalian repertoire that no one will sing like her. These longings, in a way, are the biography of Amália that continues to be written.”

The multifaceted artist, Amália Rodrigues, interpreted musical repertoires from many different sources. In concert, 100 musicians from different musical areas – from erudite music to jazz, from fado to flamenco, from French and Italian songs to bossa nova, to  folklore and cante alentejano, will interpret the legacy of Amália Rodrigues.
